Developing life skills is a very important and often overlooked aspect of living the Christian life. Many times, Believers are so spiritual that they are no earthly good, or they are so earthly, they are no spiritual good. There must be a balance between the two. One area that needs to be addressed is where working is concerned. While the word work may be a dirty word to some people, it is vital to your success. Contrary to popular belief, the blessings of God aren’t just going to fall out of the sky. God wants to bless you and He needs you to do your part. Working is a channel through which He is able to flow His blessings to you.
Everything in life is governed by spiritual laws. There are certain established principles that will work for anyone who will get involved. In discussing life–management skills, one law that needs to be addressed is the law of diligent, hard work. It is the corresponding action that releases God to put His super on your natural ability. When you make a commitment to be a diligent, hard worker who has a job, business or provides a service for someone, you position yourself for increase.
Some people think the key to becoming wealthy lies primarily in their giving of financial offerings in church. While God expects you to give, let’s get practical; giving alone will not cause you to get rich! Giving may establish the spiritual aspect of the blessing in your life; however, working provides the actual channel for that blessing to be released into your hands.
Let’s look at Abraham as an example of how the law of giving and diligent, hard work operate hand in hand. Genesis 14:18–20 gives an account of Abraham being a tither. It says:
Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Abraham understood the principles of exchange. For him to spiritually lay hold of the blessing, he had to give something of value to a man of God. The Bible also says that Abraham raised cattle; that was his job. As a result of the blessing being on his work, the Word says he was wealthy (Genesis 13:2).
There is honor in work. Not only does it give you a sense of accomplishment and pride in what you do, it is honorable before the Lord. Did you know that even the Father works? Jesus says in John 5:17, “But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.” God is not idly sitting by watching things happen on Earth. He is actively working in conjunction with the prayers and obedience of mankind to bring His purposes to pass on the Earth. Since we are reflections of Him, we should also have a mindset that is intent upon working to accomplish the will of God for our lives, both spiritually and in the natural realm.
If you are currently unemployed, understand that God respects and honors diligent hard work. In essence, you need to get a job! In addition, allow the Lord to give you business ideas that can position you to be independently wealthy by providing a service for someone who needs it. If you have a job or business, make a quality decision to be the best worker you can be. When you are diligent, consistent and work in excellence, you position yourself for increase and promotion from God.
Today is your day to go to another level in your life. Doing the practical things necessary to achieve success and financial freedom is essential. God gives everyone a choice to receive abundance or walk in lack; it is up to you. Choose today to get on the path to wealth by activating the law of diligent, hard work.
