Years ago, Tina Turner recorded a song titled What’s Love Got to Do With It? In it, she refers to love as a “secondhand emotion.” The song became one of her biggest hits. Unfortunately, the song’s message can cause people to believe that love is powerless and should not be the basis for building and maintaining strong relationships. Nothing could be further from the truth. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. Why do I say that? Because God is love, and His love is preeminent.
The word preeminent means, “having paramount rank, dignity or importance.” Anything that is preeminent has undoubted superiority, which makes it superior to any other force in the universe. Ultimately, everyone must give an account to the superior force of love.
God wants us to live a life of love—His agapé love. Agapé love is supernatural, unconditional, limitless, one-sided and doesn’t require love in return. It seeks the advantage, pleasure and well-being of others and doesn’t regard itself. However, most people love others according to human emotional love, which is selfish. This type of love only loves the lovely, has limits and is based on conditions.
For Believers, there is nothing more important than learning to love others. Nothing in your life—finances, family, healing and so on—will reach its fullest potential until you perfect your love walk. For instance, many Christians are quick to step out in faith only to become disappointed and frustrated when their prayers are not answered or they fail to receive breakthrough after applying the principles they’ve learned. I am not ashamed to admit that I used to experience those same frustrations. Finally, I decided to search the Scriptures for answers and made an awesome discovery: faith works by love (Galatians 5:5-6)!
It doesn’t matter how many scriptures you stand on, how hard you pray or how much seed you sow; your heart’s desires will not manifest if you have not first cultivated the fruit of love. Simply put, the love of God is the preeminent force and supersedes every faith principle, confession and good work you do.
John 14:21 says, “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” If you really love God, then you will obey His commandment to walk in love (John 15:12). Fortunately, God does not give commands that we are unable to carry out. The moment people become born again the Holy Spirit takes up residence in them and fills them with God’s love and ability. Where there is love, there is faith. And faith leads to manifestation!
