The first and most important step in God’s supernatural war against debt is for us to remain in the circle of love. Our ability to love God’s way is critical to our debt deliverance. Romans 13:8 teaches us to owe no man anything but unconditional love. The debt to love people is required of every Christian. We should judge ourselves daily where our love walk is concerned. If someone is standing on God’s Word for financial breakthrough but has not seen any results, the blockage could be the result of his or her inability to operate in love. We must ask ourselves, To whom do I owe the debt of love and have not paid it? Is unforgiveness, strife, or past hurt keeping me from loving others the way God commands? If so, it is time to deal with these issues and get them resolved.
God will not allow His supernatural power to flow through our lives if we refuse to love. When we give the gift of love, we can receive the Father’s love in the form of supernatural debt cancellation and provision in other areas of our lives as well.
Declare God’s Word over Your Finances
Once our love foundation is secure, we can begin to receive the promises of God. The Word says when you decree a thing, it is established (Job 22:28). A decree is an authoritative order or established judgment. When we open our mouths and declare what God has said regarding our finances, we activate the forces of heaven to go to work on our behalf. Therefore, the second step in the supernatural war against debt is to make an announcement against the devil concerning our financial freedom. It is our job to release the power of God to break the power of the spirit behind debt by decreeing that we are released from debt’s grip, according to God’s Word (Deuteronomy 15:1–4).
Bind the Enemy
The third step of the supernatural war against debt is to bind the enemy. This is where a lot of people miss it because they do not understand the importance of binding the enemy. Believe it or not, demons do exist. In fact, there are specific demonic forces assigned to destroy every area of our lives, including our finances. The Bible says we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, the knowledge of the battle set against us will help us effectively arm ourselves with God’s Word.
Part of our power over the enemy is knowing we are fighting him. We need to know who he is, his tactics, and who we are in Christ. In Matthew 12:28–29, Jesus expounded upon a key aspect of spiritual warfare. “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.”
We must bind the enemy, or as this Scripture describes him, “the strong man,” so we can make progress in our war against debt. When we immobilize the enemy by binding him, we have the ability to move forward financially. Therefore, our prayer time should specifically include this aspect of debt deliverance.
